Pierced-beam construction
What is it? As you can see in the picture, the stringers that run across the frame, and form the bed of the trailer, are installed through the frame, as opposed to being welded to the top of the frame.
Why is this important? For one thing, it lowers the bed height, keeping the load nearly 6" lower to the ground than conventional beds. Additionally, this lowers the trailer's center of gravity, making the trailer much more stable, especially when heavily loaded.

Powder-Coated Finish
What is powder coating and why is it a superior way to finish a trailer?
Powder coating is a type of dry coating, which is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a "skin"...It is usually used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint.
There are several advantages of powder coating over conventional liquid coatings:
-
- Powder coatings can produce much thicker coatings than conventional liquid coatings without running or sagging.
- Powder coating overspray can be recycled and thus it is possible to achieve nearly 100% use of the coating.
- Powder coating production lines produce less hazardous waste than conventional liquid coatings.
- Capital equipment and operating costs for a powder line are generally less than for conventional liquid lines.
- Powder coated items generally have fewer appearance differences between horizontally coated surfaces and vertically coated surfaces than liquid coated items.
- A wide range of specialty effects is easily accomplished which would be impossible to achieve with other coating processes.
So there you have it: ProTrak trailers feature a durable, hard metal coating which is chip and fade resistant, and which will give you years of quality service life. While some trailer manufacturers offer powder coating as an expensive upgrade, ProTrak offer powdering coating as a standard feature on all of their trailers.

Genuine Dexter™ Axles

ProTrak included genuine Dexter™ axles on all of their trailers. This is a big deal! Why?
To cut costs, many trailer manufactures offer Alco™ or Quality™ axles on their trailers as standard equipment. While these axles get the job done, the repair parts for these axles are hard to find in a timely manner, and are substantially more expensive than Dexter™ repair parts. Items such as brake assemblies, bearings, seals, hubs and drums are all very easy to find and quite affordable when it comes to Dexter™.
The ease of repair, as well as Dexter™'s reputation for toughness and dependability, means that if you do have to perform any repairs, they will not break the bank, nor will you be waiting for parts to arrive from distant supply houses, losing valuable up-time and money. Additionally, all ProTrak trailers come with electric brakes as standard as well, so stopping the trailer is never an issue either. (Feel free to upgrade to electric/hydraulic brakes, or even air brakes. ProTrak can do it for you.)
Haul with peace of mind when you use ProTrak trailers featuring Dexter™ axles as standard equipment. It's the smart choice.

Tubing Rear Bumper

ProTrak trailers all come with tubing rear bumpers, something you definitely want to see on your trailer. Why is that?
It is very common for flatbed manufacturers to use inexpensive light mounting brackets for tail and clearance light installation. This means that the tail lights, as well as the marker lights, are not recessed. Once the trailer is put in service, it's not long before the lights are subsequently knocked off of the trailer by rocks, road vibration, or from hitting obstacles or other road hazards.
Therefore, it is always much more practical to install recessed lighting, thus helping to protect the lights and making for a "cleaner" light installation that is also more simple and less time consuming to repair should the need arise. ProTrak's use of a tubing bumper offers these advantages. While being a very strong part of the trailer structure itself, the tubing bumper offers a simple mounting solution for trailer lighting.
Mounting the trailer lights in the bumper offers superior protection against damage, helping to keep you on the road longer, safer, and less likely to be fined at those pesky DOT checkpoints because of lighting issues. Tubing bumpers also by nature provide a safe location to run trailer wiring, protecting the lighting circuit from the weather and sun exposure. Want a trailer that offers both mechanical and electrical reliability? Looks like you better buy a ProTrak trailer!
